    Camp Cool Spring: Week 4

    Words, Music and Inspiration!

    Ages 10 - 15

    Teaching Artist: Steve Warner

Nature has been the inspiration for thousands of songs. Just think of how many songs reference the sun and moon!  We’ll rely on the beautiful surroundings at Cool Spring to help tap into our creativity. Expect great things to happen. And it will...as you learn about song form, structure, lyric and melody in way that will empower you to write something special. Campers do not need any prior music skill or knowledge, just a willingness to express their ideas. Those who play instruments or sing are encouraged to share their talents with the class. We will explore types of songs and what makes certain ones so memorable. Participants will also have an opportunity to sample instruments for accompaniment...guitar, ukelele, mandolin, even a hand drum. We’ll also delve into the art of performing and touch on a bit of music theory. Our primary goal will be to write a song as a group and perform it for parents and guests on the last day of camp. The week will be somewhat tailored to the make up of the group and we’ll have plenty of time for one on one mentoring. Our primary objective will be to have FUN.

In this modern form of treasure hunting campers will design and install two new letterboxing courses. Working in teams you will decide on the theme of each course. Learn to write clues to help others discover a series of weatherproof boxes you will hide along Craftworks trails in interesting, and picturesque places containing a logbook and carved rubber stamp.  After installation you’ll be the first participants to try out the other team’s course.
