    Venturing Program

    Co-educational, character building program

    for Coed Youth ages 14-20

CraftWorks is the home of a new Coed Venturing Crew in Jefferson County.  Join us every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month to participate in this exciting program

One of the prized programs of the Boy Scouts of America is its Venturing program. Venturing is inclusive of both young men and women, providing them with activities and opportunities that will enhance and develop their leadership skills, build up their confidence, and prepare them to make good decisions all while participating in adventurous and engaging activities.

Venturing is a unique opportunity for youth in that the program is supervised by adults but formed and executed by the youth. This youth-led organizational system allows youth to exercise autonomous decision making, team leading, advanced planning, and even budgeting while experiencing a wide variety of physical activities. While the activities are planned by the youth, they frequently include white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, team-building cope courses, skiing, backpacking, camping, and even scuba-diving.

A Level 2 First Aider is required at day events, overnights and camping events with more than 200 participants.

The Hills are Alive with Song I!

    Ages 8 - 13

    Teaching Artist: Steve Warner

Nature has been the inspiration for thousands of songs. Just think of how many songs reference the sun and moon!  We’ll rely on the beautiful surroundings at Cool Spring to help tap into our creativity. Expect great things to happen. And it will...as you learn about song form, structure, lyric and melody in way that will empower you to write something special. Campers do not need any prior music skill or knowledge, just a willingness to express their ideas. Those who play instruments or sing are encouraged to share their talents with the class. We will explore types of songs and what makes certain ones so memorable. Participants will also have an opportunity to sample instruments for accompaniment...guitar, ukelele, mandolin, even a hand drum. We’ll also delve into the art of performing and touch on a bit of music theory. Our primary goal will be to write a song as a group and perform it for parents and guests on the last day of camp. The week will be somewhat tailored to the make up of the group and we’ll have plenty of time for one on one mentoring. Our primary objective will be to have FUN.

The Hills are Alive with Song II!

    Ages 8 - 13

    Teaching Artist: Steve Warner

This camp is an extension for those that participated the previous week, but also an oppourtuniy for new participants. We will cover much of the same material, but also work with individual campers to find their musical voice in song. The goal for returning campers will be to write their own songs...with a little help from their friends. Collaboration will be encouraged. There will be lots of time for one on one mentoring throughtout the process. For all campers, we will still have a group project...writing and performing a song based on experiencing the beautiful hills, woods and creatures of Cool Spring. Hopefully several new songs will come out of the week and we can have both a group and individual performances for parents and guests on the last day of camp. Again, our primary objective will be to have FUN.

Everyone should know basic first aid and CPR.  Whether you are a parent, grandparent, favorite aunt or uncle you need the skills to respond in an emergency.  Anyone involved with youth or adult groups like scouting, church activities (youth or adult), community events should take this vital training.

Level 1 - First Aid and CPR
Recognition and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants; and an introduction to AEDs. We will deal with a few major categories of accidents, soft tissue wounds, like the typical bruises, cuts and scrapes of everyday life, along with the non-so-typical, more life threatening accidents. Burns, from mild sunburn to third-degree, poisoning, choking, and, of course, ''natural'' encounter - bee stings, poisoning and the danger of anaphylactic shock will be thoroughly covered.

    Level 2 - First Aid & CPR
The second level is for the adult acting as the first aider for most large events such as festivals, fairs, and bazaars and scouting activities of multiple troops and groups. A Level 2 first aider is required for any Boy or Girl Scout resident camp, family camp or core camp. A Level 2 First Aider is required at day events, overnights and camping events with more than 200 participants.
