Don't be afraid of glass!This beginning stained glass class using the copper-foil method meets for 6 sessions of 2 1/2 hours each. You will create a sun catcher and a small panel. The class covers types of glass, working with a pattern, glass cutting, applying the foil, soldering, cleaning and finishing. Teaching Artist Sheila Brannan guides you through this fun and creative hands-on class, designed to promote comfort with the materials and inspiration for the stained glass process.

Woodcut printing is experiencing a massive resurgence in popularity. Beautiful multicolor prints are now seen not only in galleries but as part of the graphic identity of stores ranging from Whole Foods to Starbucks.

Woodcut printing's popularity has always been its accessibility. It is easy to learn and does not require expensive tools.

Join Charlottesville printmaker Josef Beery in a two day workshop introducing the process of woodcut printmaking. We will find our inspiration on a wildflower walk and then work from sketches we make of natural treasures we find. (Drawing skill is not required...the class is open to students of all levels.)

Basketry; Create a Berry Basket

Learn an Appalachian tradition, discover new weaving techniques, work with unique basket making materials, have an incredible time making a beautiful, usable, basket you will be proud of!

Used to pick berries in, this basket is designed with a ‘hump’ in the bottom of it to help distribute the weight of berries as their weight accumulates as berries are placed into the basket. Students will learn how to weave in the round, then pick up the base and weave it on their knee, then shape the basket so that it gently curves upward and can accommodate the sides of the oak handle. Basket woven with reed – many basic weaving techniques will be covered. Especially nice displayed hanging up so base can be seen when not in use. Overall measurements are 10” X 10”.

Learn to use pastels as a drawing tool to
create drawings that look like paintings.
The basic principals of drawing and some

and want to expand their drawing skills

This follow-up to WATERCOLOR BASICS meets for five 3-hour classes. It is a great way to apply and build upon the skills acquired from the introductory class and also a helpful refresher for those who have experience with watercolor. Each class begins with a demonstration and the introduction of new techniques. The student then has time to work on what he or she is inspired by from photos or still life set ups, with Rebecca's guidance, critique and support. Open to teens and adults.
